8 Bit Google Maps

2012

For a 2012 April Fool's gag, Google reskinned Maps to be reminiscent of classic NES RPG world maps. I was first brought on to create a logo for the endeavor, but went on to design a custom Maps UI skin, Pegman character, and oversee the creation of 100+ unique landmarks that were placed around the map.

I worked with the Map’s team to create replacement assets for UI bits like map pins, Street view’s Pegman, and map navigation elements.

While I only made 10 landmarks, I helped define a style and palette and worked with many other Google employees who volunteered their time to ultimately make over 100+ unique landmark illustrations.
